How to put parental controls on TikTok

There are a few different ways that you can implement parental controls on TikTok. One way is to use the app's built-in features. You can do this by going into the Settings menu and tapping on Family Safety Mode. This will link a parent's account to their child's, so you can enable Digital Wellbeing features, such as limiting who can send messages and the amount of time that your child can spend on the app each day.

Another way to put parental controls on TikTok is to use a third-party parental control app or service. There are a few different options available, and you'll need to decide which one is right for your family. Some of the factors you'll want to consider are the features that are offered, the price, and whether or not it's compatible with your child's device.

Once you've decided which method you want to use, there are a few things you should keep in mind when setting up parental controls. First of all, make sure that you choose a passcode that your child won't be able to guess. Secondly, keep in mind that you can always change the settings if you need to. It's important to discuss parental controls with your teen and why they're important.

What's the age limit for TikTok?

TikTok has a minimum age requirement of 13. This means that if your child is under the age of 13, they will not be able to create an account. However, there is no sure way of enforcing this age limit. This means that it's up to you as a parent to decide whether or not you want to allow your child to use the app. It also means that your children can access the app without you knowing, so it's important to be aware of what they're doing.

How can I pair my TikTok account with my child’s?

TikTok also has a feature called Family Pairing. The parent will need to open their TikTok account and go to Profile, the human icon found in the lower right corner. Choose Settings, and then Family Pairing. Select the ‘Parent’ option under ‘Who Is Using This TikTok Account?’ and you will see a QR code.

Now, go into your child's TikTok account and set up Family Pairing by going to Settings and choosing Family Pairing. Select the Teen setting, then scan the QR code which will link the accounts. You can then select your child's account and change their settings as you wish.

How to make my child's account private

Open the app and log into your child's account. Tap on the three dots found in the upper right-hand corner, then tap on Privacy, and then Select Private Account. This will change the settings so that only approved people can follow your child's account.

How to set up screen-time limit

TikTok parental controls also allow you to set a screen-time limit for your child. To do this, go to the Settings menu, tap on Digital Wellbeing, and then Screen Time Management. Once you're here, you can set a time limit of between 40 and 120 minutes.

How to know what videos my child liked

If you're concerned about the types of videos that your child is watching, you can check their Likes to see what they're viewing. To do this, go to their profile and tap on the three dots in the upper right-hand corner. From there, select Privacy. under Who Can See Your Likes? and select Friends. This will configure it so that you can see the videos that your child has liked – just make sure you are friends with them on TikTok first.

How to limit or filter comments under videos

Go to the Settings menu and tap on Comments. From there, you can choose to filter comments by keyword, or you can turn off comments altogether. You can also limit who can comment on your child's videos by going to the Privacy page and selecting Friends under Who Can Comment on Your Videos?

What is Restricted Mode and how to enable it

Restricted Mode is a feature that allows you to filter out content that you don't want your child to see. To turn it on, go to the Settings page and tap on Digital Wellbeing. From there, select Restricted Mode. You can then choose to filter out keywords or turn on auto-filter, which will remove content based on your child's age.

How to disable downloading

If you want to make sure that your child can't download videos, you can go to the Settings page and disable downloading. To do this, tap on Downloads and then choose Never Allow. This configuration will mean your child can only watch videos online and they won't be able to save them to their device.

What is Stitch and how to disable it

Stitch is a tool that allows users to put clips from multiple videos in one. To disable this, go to the Settings page and tap on Privacy. From there, toggle off the Allow Stitch setting. This configuration means your child can only watch individual videos and they won't be able to create stitches.

How to disable messaging

If you want to make sure your child can't message anyone, go to the Me tab in your child's account and then the Settings and Privacy page. From there, you can disable messaging by selecting No One under Who Can Send You Direct Messages.

What are the concerns with TikTok?

Children using TikTok may be exposed to inappropriate content, including violence and adult content. There’s also a risk of cyberbullying, as well as the possibility of strangers contacting children through the app. Another concern with TikTok is that it collects a lot of data from users. This includes information like user location, contact lists, and browsing history.

Some parents may be concerned about the amount of time children spend on TikTok. The app is designed to be addictive, and there have been reports of children spending hours daily on it. This can be a problem if app usage interferes with schoolwork or social life.

Overall, TikTok is a fun and creative app that has educational potential. However, parents should be aware of potential risks. If you don't want your child to download or use the app, you can also set up parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad or other devices.

This isn't necessary to use TikTok, but it can be tempting.
